You need to supply

  • Parts from your car

    • Your steering column, this will be modified to suit the rack conversion.  This will be collapsible and easy to install.

    • Your floor plate for steering column, which will be welded to the column as in the photo.  This is a much neater way of mounting the lower end of the column and makes it easier for you to assemble.

    • With the front rack I will need your cross member and lower control arms to modify and weld the brackets for the rack, if you want me to weld the brackets for the rear rack there is no extra cost.

    • Your cross member needs to be unassembled and cleaned before sending it to me.

  • Rack Parts

    • Commodore rack for the rear, with this one you need to look on the housing there is a 7 digit part number ending in 911, do not get any other.

    • Commodore steering column and intermediate shaft, and you will need two right intermediate shafts.

      • The two shafts are cut and welded to make one longer shaft.  The welding to the shaft is sent away to be welded and x-rayed.

      • Each is 440mm long; remember to check the universal joints for wear.

    • HQ steering arms these are the short ones, they are about 100mm from the hole that the tie rod bolts up to and the first bolt hole for the stub axle.

    • HQ steering column - you will only need the shaft if you find one loose.

Extra things you need to know . . .

You will notice in the photos of the front and rear racks the tie rods are the right length.  There is no extension nut; these tie rods are new.

With these rack conversions you still get the original turning circle, and the steering is lightened too. The top of the column still remains the same as standard, other columns can be used.
